Located in Kunming which is called “City of Perennial Spring” and conceived in the Teachers College of the National Southwest Associated University which was established in 1938, Yunnan Normal University is a provincial key university that has a long and fine tradition. A large number of well-know scholars, including Nobel Prize winner Dr. Yang Zhenning and Dr. Li Zhengdao, used to work or study on campus.
The university covers a total area of 3,330 Mu (about 543 acres). It consists of 28 schools plus two independent schools and more than 40 research institutes. It has now over 33,000 full-time students including Ph.D., postgraduates and undergraduates. It offers 87 bachelor’s programs, 2 postdoctoral research programs, 8 doctoral programs, 156 master’s programs and 13 professional master’s programs, with International students education as one of its major characteristics. It is now: One of the Bases for Chinese Language and Culture Education of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China;One of Hanban’s Teacher Training Bases for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (Kunming);One of the Ministry of Education of China Demonstrative Bases for International Admission and Education.
